We are excited to announce Better Block 2014 - taking place October 20-25 in the Airport District!
Detroit’s Airport District (Conner Cluster) is bound by McNichols and Houston-Whittier (north), Interstate 94 (south), Conner (west) and Hayes (east). Despite population decline, massive school closures and high structural blight, this neighborhood has many amenities including the Detroit City Airport and Conner Creek Greenway. The district is a predominately residential area surrounded by many underutilized commercial corridors and thoroughfares. The social and physical infrastructure in the district presents unique opportunities to explore sustainable redevelopment practices. With its close proximity to downtown, the riverfront and 8 Mile, the Airport District is well suited to become Detroit’s next emerging neighborhood.
Better Block Detroit 2014 (BBD2014) will convene in the city’s Airport District, transforming a highly visible section of a commercial corridor to demonstrate the potential for walkable, neighborhood-scale development. We invite you to follow our progress through this blog and our social media feeds.
